Setting a Formal Table with Crystal Water Goblets
The first things you pay attention to upon arriving at a formal
dinner are the room’s decoration and the way the tables are set. The table cloth must match with the china and the
crystal ware should stand besides the plates in harmonious order. Everything needs to be in symphonic balance. The
use of crystal water goblets instead of glasses will complement this setting. Wine cups and regular glasses do not
match and the glasses look out of place on a fancy table.
A perfect line of cups and goblets besides every service adds
class and dimension to a table. It is important though that the wine service has the same characteristics the
goblets have. For example, you should not use long stem smooth cups with short stemmed, etched crystal water
goblets. Cups and goblets should be set in the order they will be used by the person and in descending order
with the shortest being closer to the plates.
The first from inside out should be the crystal water
goblet, next comes the champagne glass and finally the wine glass. They should all belong to the same set or have
very similar details and shape so everything looks in the right place and nothing stands out or looks out of place.
Do not mix colored glasses with transparent glasses either this will break the table settings flow. If you use
colored linen, use transparent glasses; if you use white linen then you can use colored glasses.
Crystal water goblets are made in many sizes, shapes and
colors. They are also simple and smooth, etched or facetted. They are available in all price ranges and to satisfy
any taste. Lead crystal is the best crystal to buy because it is not only beautiful but dishwasher resistant and
will take some abuse. It has great light absorption and reflection plus it is cheaper than baccarat crystal.
Baccarat crystal is beautiful but it is inaccessible to most people especially if you are going to buy a large set
of crystal ware.
Colored crystal goblets are beautiful but they are not
practical. They are difficult to combine with the linen and plate sets. You can change the decoration for your
party every time but you cannot change the color of your glasses and goblets. It makes better sense to buy a set of
transparent glasses and goblets for your dinner parties. These will combine and look great with any decoration and
linen color combination, they are also easier to replace if they get broken.
If you and your family like to entertain and have dinner guests
once in a while it is necessary for you to buy a complete set of crystal glass ware. The set should include crystal
water goblets, champagne glasses, white and red wine glasses and if you want to stay within the line, crystal
liquor glasses. They usually come in sets for six or eight people so do the math and get as many as you need
to entertain your friends.
